inside-out: lawn love

I have no idea who these people are. I took this picture a couple years ago when I was driving around and exploring my new hood in East Nashville. This was from one of those alleys that are coloured with character that I happened to drive down. I felt quite awkward about my quick drive by shooting, but in the end, didn’t really care…probably because I find it very endearing, and inside-out is all about exposure anyway. 😉

Inside-Out: The Bomb Shelter

Inside-out features The Bomb Shelter; Andrija Tokic, owner and operator just completed the big move (a few streets down from his old in-house studio) to the new location in East Nashville. I’ve sacrificed many Indian food/Ren & Stimpy hours with my man because of this place, but after seeing what came of it, and I’m sure after hearing what comes from it, it’s been and will be well worth it. Andrija, Mitch jones, Ben Trimble and Ricardo Alessio did a handsome job with handsome hands. Oh, and used handsome wood that came from a near by Amish community. My personal favorites in the studio are the glitter drums, the zebra seat and the colourful organs. …I’m sure they have something to do with helping things sounds good.

(mmmKinda funny) Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial that was presented in August of last year. Below, is the (kinda cool) signature of the Chinese sculptor, Master Lei Yixin.

Damn, it’s cold. Help a hobo.

It’s been a warm winter so far, but with the snow as evidence; today has officially been cold. Due to many different circumstances, people are out on the streets tonight, and tomorrow night, and the night after that…without a house to pay rent on, a MaryKate & Ashley fur comforter, a bowl of Amy’s soup, or a cup of Trader Joe’s hot cocoa …(just to name a few things that I am finding myself with tonight.) But really, people are cold. Depending on what you already have or can afford, here are some suggestions of things that you can keep in your car to hand to someone in need that you may see while driving.

  • winter coats
  • gloves
  • hats
  • socks!
  • a bag of small items: toothbrush/paste, soap, dried fruit, water bottles
  • backpacks to have a place to easily keep what they do have
  • reading material (National Geographics!?) …something to occupy the mind.
  • small gift certificates to food places (Subway?)

I’m preeeetty sure that most people don’t bite, but still be careful about the way you go about this. Thanks to The Contributor, many homeless people that you may see while driving in Nashville, will already have a paper to sell to you in hand. However, there are still others that are not connected with The Contributor that need help as well. All you can do is use your best judgement.
